"Conscious Dying"

Through the meditation of "conscious dying" you get the opportunity to work with the process of your own dying very intensively. The Buddhist teachings contain very precise descriptions on the process of dying, death and the stage between death and rebirth. Many teachers and meditation masters also have a lot of experience with the process of dying.

In the meditation practice, one learns to transfer the consciousness at the moment of death into a state of highest bliss. Lama Ole, who has taught more than 30,000 people the Phowa, which takes place about ten times a year worldwide, also gives teaching on death, Bardo (the state between this life and the next) and rebirth. The Phowa course also enables you to help others at the time of their death.

Lama Ole Nydahl received the transmission of the Phowa teachings from different Tibetan Lamas and is today the most significant teacher of this practice in the Western world. All the centers offer preparations for this course in conscious dying. It´s good to do the "Meditation on the Buddha of Limitless Light" which you can get in your center as a little booklet or on a tape.

"The Four Foundations"
The four foundational practices (tib. Ngondro) are the beginning of the development in Diamond Way Buddhism. They are powerful methods for removing hindrances and negative impressions from the mind, and to develop merit and inner wealth. These meditations cannot be valued highly enough, as they allow us to work directly with the causes of the difficulties in our daily life which keep us from experiencing the true nature of our minds. Those who engage in the foundational practices become more and more like a diamond, radiating the clear, indestructible nature of mind.

These practices consist of four different meditations: the first is the refuge with prostrations, the second the Diamond Mind meditation, the third the mandala offerings and fourth is Guru Yoga, the meditation on the teacher. Practicing the Ngondro, you purify disturbing emotions in body, speech and mind through the repetition of mantras and negative habits will disappear. It is the basis for further meditations and points the way to enlightenment. You can get teachings on this practice either on courses with Lama Ole Nydahl around the world or at your local center.
