Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche

Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche was born in Buthan in 1918, and was one of the last great meditation masters to receive their profound and extensive education in the old Tibet. The 16th Gyalwa Karmapa became one of his most important teachers. Due to his great activity during the past decades, Rinpoche was seen as one of the key figures for the cohesion of the different buddhist schools in Nepal and the whole Himalayan region. Hannah and Lama Ole met him on their first trip to the East in 1969.

He became their first teacher and they maintained a very close connection throughout his life. From 1987 he regularly visited the Diamond Way centers which Hannah and Ole founded in the West. He also built a 13m high Kalachakra stupa in Spain and was present when the 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje was first welcomed to the West.

Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche died at the age of 85 from the complications of old age on June 10th, 2003 in a Bangkok hospital. The immense power of his compassion was felt by people of every background and continues to benefit all beings.
